Bubbly blood orange campari cocktail

Blood orange campari cocktail

This bubbly blood orange Campari cocktail recipe is with fresh blood orange juice, campari and champagne or sparkling wine. I love making bubbly cocktails and wanted to make a special Valentine’s Day cocktail that had the same color as a red rose. As soon as I saw the blood oranges I knew they would be just perfect. I also knew that I had to include champagne/prosecco or some type of sparkling wine in the cocktail – bubbly drinks are perfect for Valentine’s Day or a special dinner or any occasion.

Blood orange cocktail

While just the blood orange and the sparkling wine together would have made a great mimosa/bellini style drink, I wanted to add something else that would leave your taste buds a little bit intrigued. So, I added a dash of Campari. Campari is an Italian spirit that has a very distinct red color and a bitter taste. The exact ingredients in Campari are a secret, but are supposed to include a variety of bitter herbs and spices.

The quantities below are for 2 drinks, you can adjust based on the number of drinks you want to make. Keep in mind that blood oranges are very pulpy and are not as juicy as regular oranges, but their flavor is more intense. Of course, you can also make this drink with regular oranges, tangerines or grapefruit if you can’t find blood oranges. Also, if you are just making this drink for two people you can use a mini-bottle of sparkling wine, unless of course you want more than one drink each.
For a mocktail variation of this drink, you can use alcohol-free bitters to replace the Campari and sparkling grape juice or lemonade to replace the sparkling wine.
Cheers and happy Valentine’s Day!
